📢#antifragility #antifragilidad I recently read an article on Infobae, written by Daniel Colombo, discussing the importance of antifragility in organizations. Colombo highlights five strategies to improve corporate resilience, also citing examples from Peru. The article states: "El desarrollo de la #antifragilidad se puede trabajar previamente para llegar mejor preparados, y no necesita esperar que ocurra algo desastroso para activarla. Esta es una enorme diferencia con la resiliencia, componente humano que se despierta en situaciones altamente desafiantes; por ejemplo, como todos vivimos en la pandemia del COVID-19 que impactó globalmente y cambió el mundo para siempre." #Antifragility, therefore, involves possessing adaptive robustness, having an extra reserve of resilience to activate when needed, and being unbreakable (not indestructible). It also means being adaptable to chaos and finding benefits even in the midst of a situation; being stable under high-pressure situations, and becoming stronger through a reasonable amount of stress as a driver and support. This is not about sustained stress over time, which can turn into burnout, but about something that will inevitably appear in anyone's life and stress them: it is then that you transform it to your advantage. This is yet another example of the importance of considering antifragility in our uncertain world. Today we witnessed the signing of a cooperation agreement between ACEDE (Asociación Científica de Economía y Dirección de Empresas) and the British Academy of Management. This agreement will provide new development opportunities for academics from both associations based on shared values. We can announce that we are already working on an initiative to promote research stays and collaborations in project applications, as well as exploring ways to intensify interactions between our respective divisions. One of the best articles I read, from one of the best researchers in our Spanish National Research Council. This is one of the most relevant paragraphs that explain how what happened in Valencia that is called in Spanish DANA, una “Depresión Aislada en Niveles Altos” or “Isolated Depression at High Levels.” A DANA is a low-pressure or depression system in the upper levels of the atmosphere, which has completely separated from the general circulation of the atmosphere, in our case from the westerly zonal circulation. The key paragraph says: "What happened? DANA is the result of a complex combination of circumstances: the storms known as 'cold drops' at the end of summer, with several meteorological processes altered by climate change. A combination that has given rise to an event extreme" Climate change has long been producing a surface temperature of the Mediterranean Sea above 30ºC for several weeks a year, absolutely unusual and typical of tropical seas. A temperature that provides the energy and humidity necessary to magnify any 'cold drop', and cannot be explained if not by the sustained burning of fossil fuels and the consequent release of greenhouse gases. Climate change has been weakening the jet stream for years, that longitudinal current of winds at a height that separates the cold areas in the north and the temperate ones further south. A weaker jet stream undulates, creates troughs and meanders, and allows large pockets of cold air aloft to move far to the south. When they come into contact with the warm, humid air generated in an overheated Mediterranean, a huge storm is triggered. " So yes, this is a consequence of a higher than-usual Mediterranean Sea surface temperature and a weakened jet stream, which Al Gore already warned us about in his 2006 book "an inconvenient truth"....Yes, very inconvenient, and therefore, we don't take it enough into account to make substantial changes, and now we are seeing the consequences! Will we act now? We need a new language, which everyone can understand and integrate into their new life.
